Hi, I’m Grissy.
I’ve always been drawn to the gothic. It’s the thread that runs through pretty much everything I write, whether I’m dealing in ghosts, murder, monsters, or just the kind of human behaviour that makes you want to lock the door and check it twice.

My books are for readers who like their fiction on the darker side… but still want heart in it too.
I actually started out under a different pen name: Emma Barrett-Brown. Some of those books are still up on Amazon under that name. These days though, I publish as Grissea Fox, and that’s where my current work (and my future self) lives.
So what do I write?
The older Emma Barrett-Brown catalogue is… varied. Think “author finding her feet” energy. A bit of Victorian romance, a bit of fantasy, and plenty of vampire/supernatural romance along the way. I learned a lot writing those books, and they’ll always be part of my history, even if I’m not actively updating or promoting that backlist anymore.
Then in 2022, I relaunched with a new style and a sharper idea of what I wanted to do. That’s where Manor Street and Foxhill came in: a dark little ghost story, and a murder mystery. From there, something clicked. My voice changed, my skill level jumped, and I found myself pulling bigger real-world themes into the gothic stuff I already loved.
That’s where books like Blakemore came from, and The Ghosts We Carry (not published yet) is also part of that lane. I love using gothic intrigue, ghosts, and the supernatural to explore real things… trauma, identity, survival, the messier parts of life we don’t always say out loud. The darkness is there, but it’s never “dark for the sake of it.”
And then… because even I need a break from the heavy stuff sometimes, I also write dark romance (yes, smut. We’re all adults here). Those books are spicy, but still story-driven, with characters I actually care about and plots that don’t vanish the second someone takes their top off. They’re the more lighthearted side of my work… if “lighthearted” can ever be said with a straight face in dark romance. Titles include A Bargain of Thorns and The Infernal Wager, and there’s another one brewing too. They’re queued for release but not out yet, and I’ll shout about them properly when they land.
These days, most of my energy is dedicated to my newer books under Grissea Fox. The Emma Barrett-Brown books are still out there in the wild, but I’m focused on what I’m making now… darker, sharper, more me.
If you’re into gothic atmosphere, messy emotions, and the occasional ruined soul (romantically or otherwise), you’re in the right place.
